Vidra (Transalpina) preview

09/01/2013

Lately, everybody talks a lot about the new ski domain at Vidra. So we had to pack our skis, drive to Vidra, and test the new ski slopes.

How to get there

The ski domain can be accessed from Olt Valley on the DN 7A road that goes through Brezoi, Voineasa, Vidra Lake (about 70 km of paved road in a fair state). Another way is to start in Petrosani on the same DN 7A (on the other side of the montain) and pass through the town of Obarsia Lotrului (just 35 km of paved road).

Ski runs (map)

The slopes are for everybody: slope #1 (2.2 km long, under the gondola) is perfect for medium-advanced skiers, while slope #2 (730 m long, surface lift), slope #4 and slope #7 (1.2 km, quad chairlift) are better for the novice. Slope #7 seems to have less snow because of its position, and it is not very well marked yet.

Do not ask us about the slopes 3, 5 and 6 because they are not finished yet (or we did not see them) - the project should be finished this summer.

The view

Anybody will be mesmerized by the spectacular views that can be seen form every ski run. The big Vidra Lake, located at the base of the slopes 500 meters lower, and the surrounding 2000 meters high peaks of Lotrului and Parang mountains offer great panoramas.

Facilities

At the base of the slopes, the constructions are not yet over. The parking is not finished, the ski rental shop has a very limited offer, and there are only portable toilettes (not recomended).

At 1850 meters altitude there is a bar/patio where anybody can take a break and relax. There is also a modern restroom in one of the buildings on the right.

In conclusion, go to Vidra and experience great panoramas, long ski runs and good snow. Once the first phase of the project will be finished, in the summer of 2013, we are sure that everything will be neat and at its place.

Later edit (13/02/2013)
Apparently there's a modern restroom at the base of the mountain too. Unfortunatelly, we couldn't locate it at the time we were there.
