A topic about Balea Lac, Sinaia .

Hi,

me and my girlfriend would like to go for skiing to Romania by the end of March, but do not know which one is the best for us. I am advanced skier with experience of skimountaneering, she is interm./advanced. We are looking for higher altitudes with well maintained ski slopes+some offpiste/freeride terrains. Would like to find accomm. in some calm mountain chalet/village.
Are Sinaia, Balea good resorts for us?? Also would like to ask about how to get there from Slovakia? Should we take D1 route from Oradea heading for Bucharest??
Thanks for all advices, itīsa nice country.
Peter

hello, the Sinaia and Balea are the best for what you intend to do. Balea it's a more an extreme zone, it's not a proper ski resort, there are 4-5 chalets, one car-cable lift and no official slope :). at Balea you'll find only natural tracks perfect for offpiste & freeride, the snow it's perfect 'till may or even june - in march/april the avalanche risk it's quite big.

Sinaia it's a well organized resort and offers official ski tracks and lots of tracks for offpiste & freeride, but the snow might be small and wet in late march when you want to visit.

to reach Sinaia you'll have to take the road from Oradea to Bucharest (through Brasov), Sinaia it's between Brasov & Bucharest. to reach Balea you'll have to use the same route till Brasov and then change direction to Sibiu, after that (between Brasov and Sibiu) take "Transfagarasan" up to Balea Cascada. a shorter road I think it's through Sibiu from which you take the road to Brasov but leave it when you reach "Transfagarasan".
