Hey there.
Glad to hear you're coming to Romania this season.
The best place to ski here is Poiana Brasov. That is about 15km away from the city Brasov. Basically you gotta go to Brasov and then you can go by car, or by bus, it's very easy. The slopes are great and the view is fantastic. Lots of shops and bars for all your needs, the food is fantastic. You should try restaurants like "Coliba Haiducilor". Anyway, you can have lots of fun there.
The best thing to do is go to Poiana Brasov, stay there for a few days or more and then head for Bucharest. After 20-30km or so there are a few resorts: Predeal, Busteni, Azuga, Sinaia. All 4 have ski slopes and it's worth checking them out, especially Sinaia where you can ski at 2000m altitude. My tips are : go to 3 star hotels, they are good value. Take cash, credit cards aren't used so much here as in England...oh and have a great time!

Hey there. It\'s ok, you can stay either in Brasov or Poiana Brasov. Nightlife here is great, at least in my city. Full of clubs, bars, restaurants, everything. Brasov is a fantastic city. I go to Poiana Brasov every year in the winter and there is always snow. About the snow: This year when i got to Poiana Brasov, it was all green in the resort no snow at all, but on the ski slope it was full of snow (50cm+), mainly because there is a big difference in altitude. I am 100% sure you will find lots of snow, it\'s at about 1800m altitude. Anyway, if you want more details you can e-mail or IM me at : gabibyte@yahoo.com or gabi_lupoian@hotmail.com. Speaking of new years eve, i gotta get my friends to start looking for something soon.

Doesn't Muntele Mic mean small mountains? I'm looking for the biggest in the country!

My wife and I are from Chicago and are visiting some family in January and we want to take advantage of the cheap skiing in Romania. It sounds like Brasov is the #1 spot with Sinaia at #2. I was wondering if anyone could recomend a particular hotel. I saw Hotel Sport mentioned before and it is close to the lifts but its hard to get information online as there arent that many good websites available. Any recomendations for Poiana or Sinaia would be appreciated!

I would suggest the Lonely Planet guide, it is in all bookstores in the US and very accurate for good quality, cheap lodging in Romania.

Hope the guide is also available in the UK.... I envy you that you'll go to Romania to ski. Myself, I'll have to settle for Vermont, we're going to ski there next week.
